Aviva Studios, formally known as Factory International stands as a ground-breaking Arts & Cultural Venue at the heart of Manchester’s Enterprise City. With a capacity for up to 7000 people, it proudly serves as the new home to the Manchester International Festival (MIF). Notably, Aviva Studios represents the UK’s most significant investment in a national cultural project since the inauguration of the Tate Modern.

This is a flagship project in our portfolio that won the 'Sheeting and Cladding' Category at the NFRC Roofing Awards 2024 in addition to featuring in TIME's list of the 'World's Greatest Places' of 2024. With a capacity for up to 7000 people, we’re thrilled to have delivered the full envelope package collaborating with Bemo, Radmat and Laing O’Rourke.

Designed by architects OMA with assistance from BDP, the venue comprises three major conjoined buildings - the Theatre, Warehouse, and Towers - occupying the former Granada Studios on the edge of the River Irwell.

Laing O’ Rourke, we were appointed as the Main Contractor to for this prestigious project and we were duly appointed through an initial pre-construction services agreement (PCSA) to provide innovative design and operational solutions to deliver on the concept design.

The striking, unconventional and unique design of the Theatre is one that to achieve the intricate nature and sharp angles was assessed during the PCSA and determined as standing seam sheeting as the best value product to deliver on this concept comprising multi-layered build-ups to the complexly facetted vertical and horizontal planes.

The standing seam was provided by supply chain partner Bemo Group.

We also delivered various curtain walling and cladding packages as part of the overall scheme, notably the cranked glazing screen to the front elevation and the modernised traditional cladding to the rear offices.

The Hot Melt waterproofing package to the Towers roofs, including the Truck Lift and Stair 6 roofs located within the Theatre vicinity comprised of Torch Applied SBS Modified Bituminous Membrane waterproofing. This solution was provided by our trusted supply chain partner, Radmat Building Products Ltd.
