Situated on the Isle of Wight, this £50m R&D Centre allows Vestas to prototype and test the largest wind turbine blades in the world. Lindner Prater was responsible for the complete building envelope package.
Working with Sir Robert McAlpine, Lindner Prater installed 20,720 Sq m of metal standing seam roofing and 6,400 Sq m of Eurobond composite cladding panels for the two large warehouses.
Lindner Prater also installed 720 Sq m of hot melt roof into the spine, which linked the two warehouses, 4,000 Sq m of Kingspan composite panels to the stair towers and warehouse spine walls and 65 Sq m of timber composite windows. All fabrications were produced in Lindner Prater’s Crowborough facility.
Situated on the western bank of River Medina, the difficult onsite conditions and poor access meant significant challenges. All materials had to be delivered to site via ferry, meaning that transportation had to be carefully planned to maximise the ferry’s weight allowance and minimise the number of deliveries.
Working in collaboration with following trades was also key to the success of the project. Before Lindner Prater could complete the roof, two large cranes were dropped into the site for day-to-day usage within the R&D facility. This meant that Lindner Prater had to complete the remainder of the roof around other works.
